UK tech sector attracted close to £3bn investment in 2017, highest in Europe | 英国ハイテク部門への投資増加という結果に

Tech firms in UK has attracted close to £3bn in venture capital funding in year 2017, according to report by London & Partners, which is the Mayor of London's official promotional agency.

Despite the uncertainty of Brexit, last year’s investment in tech sector was almost double of the previous year’s £1.63bn investment. The data from London & Partners also revealed that UK firms attracted four times more funding than Germany, France, Ireland and Sweden.

London attracted the biggest portion of the investment, accounting for 80% of all venture capital funding in 2017. Game development company Improbable, food delivery service Deliveroo and mobile network Truphone, received the biggest fundings.

“Today’s record investment figures are further proof that London is the undisputed tech capital of Europe, and I am committed to ensuring we take over from Silicon Valley as the world’s leading tech hub,” said Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

“Technology entrepreneurs and businesses are attracted to our great city for its diverse talent pool and unique business ecosystem and I am determined that London remains open to investment and the best tech talent from all over the world,” he added.

London & Partners also noted that many global tech giants have pledged their long-term commitment to London last year. These include Amazon, Apple, Google and Spotify.
